Ooooooooookay

So.... wonderful and perfect Oscar went into psycho mode yesterday.

I went off into the city for some client meetings, and when I came home a few hours later, Chris said that Oscar hadn't sleep at all! Usually by 10:30, he's passed out and snoring.

It was pretty much the same throughout the day. He was extremely bitey and whiny and when he did sleep, he slept maybe for 40 minutes.

Then last night, he cried and cried, and eventually Chris left to sleep on the couch. Oscar seemed fine after that, but he started crying an hour later. When I went to get him out of the crate to take him outside for a pee, he was already SOPPING wet with his own pee!!!

Fast forward a few hours and it's 4:30 am, and Chris had came back to bed. Oscar had started crying again, so Chris took him outside, but only first to realize that he had already peed in his crate AGAIN! Oscar has never peed in his crate before, and now he does- TWICE!

This morning, as Oscar and I were playing, I realized that maybe the pedialyte did him in. The vet had instructed us to give him Pedialyte for him to drink when he had the runny poops. His stool is much better know, but also not exactly solid. Chris made the executive decision to give him pedialyte again. I think in the end, this came to bite us in the ass at night.

No more pedialyte!

I bet Oscar is excited for Adina and Noah to come over! I think they're more fun to him than we are!

oh boy... only 1 week and he's already nutso. Just like us.

Toys

Oscar loves toys. He also has puppy ADD, so he loves it one minute, then loves another toy the next. Then 20 minutes later, it's back to the first toy.

Last weekend, Liz and Wil brought two toys- a blue squeaky hippo (which usually is the toy of the moment every day) and a red squeaky rubber bone. The rubber bone is always outside -the designated outdoor toy.

Seriously. We have the cutest pup ever. In the entire world. I mean... big paws, blue eyes, patch over eye, floppy ears, and white tip tail. Hello? Someone should be paying us to have him in commercials. He's 8 weeks old today! And he already knows how to sit!

Let's see, on Wednesday (9/24): Alison and Raf come over. That's two more new people. Of course, Oscar was sweet as can be, no biting, and didn't even get anyone dirty. Alison was particularly good with Oscar since she used to be a vet tech. In the end, as we ate burgers and drank wine outside, Oscar fell asleep under Raf's legs. I think he found a new friend. The grill was also a new thing for him, but he did okay. I think the smell of cooked meat scares him a little bit (he froze in the back foyer when Chris was making korean bbq earlier in the week).

Tonight, the Pogachefsky's are coming over. This is good since they have two dogs and Haley's coming- who is 13? First kid for Oscar. Let's see how he does.

Oh! and on wednesday, I bought a new chew toy while at Super Fresh for groceries. He loves it! I think the bumps on it and the texture of the rubber really feels good on his gums.

Since we've removed the blanket in the crate, we can now hear him in the middle of night playing with the chew toy. It's loud, but hey, he's not crying.

He could've been a Beagle

Oscar has been doing this cry/whine/howl... and it's getting so loud you can hear him in the backyard even when he's in his crate in the living room! And his howling is getting worse... but it usually only lasts for a few minutes, then it slowly tapers off to a soft cry, a snort, then followed by another attempt for attention by a loud howl, soft cries, and eventually teethes on his bone or realizes he's really sleepy.

I asked my dogwalker (aka puppy guru) why he's crying more and more each day, and she said it's because he's becoming attached to us. And now when we're leaving, he knows... or thinks he knows. If he can't see us, he'll cry and cry, trying to get some affection and attention. But this is when we have to ignore him otherwise we will reinforce this behavior.

Chris reminded me of a man's wise words: Exercise, discipline, then affection (in that order) - Cesar Millan.

Alison and Raf are coming over for bbq tonight. That's two more new things for Oscar today : bbq outside and new friends!

A new pup is born!

Oscar was born August 1, 2008 to Zena and Billy Bad Ass of Gittingers. Oscar is a purebred American Bulldog. White with fawn markings and blue eyes.

He was brought home September 19, 2008, exactly 7 weeks of his birth.

The first night, he slept great with very minimal crying. He was very timid and shy at first, but a few days later, he was romping around chewing on everything!

He likes to play for about an hour then sleeps for about 2. In the morning, Christina plays with Oscar until 9am, then leaves for work. Around 11:30, Adina or Noah comes by to play and to feed him lunch. They return around 2:30 for more fun. Chris comes home from work around 5:15 and feeds him and plays with Oscar until Christina comes home at 7pm.

We hope Oscar feels a lot of love. Sometimes, it's frustrating because he's starting to discover new things and then likes to chew them to death. But, he's so cute... it's hard to resist his beautiful face.

We hope his eyes stay blue and that he always remains this playful. He's smart : learned to go up and down two steps from the back door. He also knows the back door means bathroom, but he doesn't always make it there in time. But he tries. He loves the leash, but doesn't know it's for walking yet, and loves to play tug on it by himself. Tennis balls are a new thing as well.
Adina told us to expose Oscar to 100 new things in 100 days.

So that's the purpose of this blog - to keep a running diary of what Oscar learns, meets, and how he reacts.
September 19th: New parents
September 20th: New toy- squeaky red bone from Wil and Liz; met Wil and Liz, and Darlene
September 21st: New toy - squeaky little blue hippo from Wil and Liz
September 22nd: Met Adina and Noah, 1st trip to Dr. Wilkenson at Mt. Airy
September 23rd: First day home alone during the day. New toy: tennis ball and kong with peanut butter
September 24th: Kong with peanut butter and about 6 pieces of Blue Buffalo kibble

When is 100 days? In korea, parents throw a big celebrations for the baby's 100 days birthday. They get dressed up in hanboks and stuff... maybe we should do that and take a pic. And use them for christmas cards.

Just got an email from Adina about Queenie's Pet's bbq in October! Yeah! I hope we can go!

Oscar is finally sleeping - he cried for a bit, but is now sleepy... we removed the blanket from the crate because he was peeing on it and it was starting to stink anyways. He really needs a bath soon...

Some new pics
